Altior bets a dead cert among 2017 Celebration Chase tips
Hurdle Bet experts give 2017 Celebration Chase tips, and Altior bets look like a banker for the Jump Finale meeting.
Altior can round off the season in style by beating Special Tiara in the Grade 1 Celebration Chase at Sandown on Saturday (15:00).
Nicky Henderson’s seven-year-old was ultra-impressive when landing the 2016 Supreme Novices’ Hurdle and has looked a real superstar in winning all five of his races over fences this season.
They include a six-length success over Charbel in the Henry VIII Novices’ Chase at this venue and an awesome display against his elders when thrashing Fox Norton by 13 lengths in the 1 Game Spirit Chase at Newbury.
Altior put in some spectacular leaps in the latter and, after leading on the bit at the fourth last, cruised home for a facile success.
Outstanding form and potential to dominate
Newbury runner-up Fox Norton went on to be beaten just a head by Special Tiara in the Queen Mother Champion Chase at the Cheltenham Festival, before landing Grade 1 contests at Aintree and Punchestown.
That is outstanding form and Altior has since gone on to land the Arkle Challenge Trophy.
Although not as impressive as many thought he would be, he still got the job done.
Altior was drawing clear at the line, beating Cloudy Dream by six lengths at the Cheltenham Festival.
To me, he has the potential to dominate the 2m chasing scene for years to come.
Although long odds-on for the Celebration Chase, Altior bets are impossible to oppose.
Special Tiara bidding for second success
Special Tiara won this race in 2015 and looks the only feasible opposition to Altior.
Trained by Henry de Bromhead, the 10-year-old is a tough front-runner who will relish the good ground.
He comes into the race on the back of a career-best performance when beating the aforementioned Fox Norton in the Queen Mother.
That Cheltenham Festival victory came when showing tremendous guts to score in the hands of Noel Fehily.
Such a performance accords Special Tiara plenty of respect.
A small field here at Sandown will allow him to bowl along in front.
The gelding is also only rated 3lb below Altior, but is much more exposed than his younger rival.
Special Tiara will thus need to raise his game to a new level to turn over the red-hot favourite.
