    Horse racing at Fairyhouse

Fairyhouse is one of Ireland’s premier horse racing venues. It hosted its first race in 1848 and has been the home of the Irish Grand National since 1870. The track also stages the Grade 1 Irish Gold Cup, won an incredible four times by Florida Pearl in 1999-2001 and 2004. Other great names in the sport such as Desert Orchid, Prince Regent, and Persian War have tasted success at the course. The first big jumps meeting at the track takes place in December and features a host of Grade 1 contests, including the Hatton’s Grace Hurdle which has an illustrious roll of honour. That includes Champion Hurdle winners Istabraq, Brave Inca and Hurricane Fly. The Irish Grand National Festival takes place during Easter and the feature contest was won in 1964 by Arkle, the greatest steeplechaser of all time. Aforementioned popular grey Desert Orchid also raised the roof when defying top weight to land the spoils in 1990.

Fantastic Fairyhouse tips on offer at Hurdle Bet

The December meeting at Fairyhouse is covered in-depth by Hurdle Bet, as it stages a number of Graded contests which are seen as key trials for the Cheltenham Festival. These include the Grade 3 Bar One Racing Juvenile Hurdle won by Our Connor in 2012, who went on to land the Triumph Hurdle months latter. Landofhopeandglory was successful in the latest running. The Grade 1 Drinmore Novices Chase was won by last year’s Gold Cup hero Don Cossack in 2013, and often provides pointers of the RSA Chase at the Festival. Coney Island, who impressed when beating a classy field back in December, is being aimed at that contest. The Grade 1 Hatton’s Grace Hurdle has also thrown-up plenty of subsequent Cheltenham Festival winners, so Apple’s Jade looks a key player in the Mares’ Hurdle following her gutsy success over Vroum Vroum Mag in the latest renewal. Irish form is vital when it comes to punting at the Cheltenham Festival, so don’t miss out on fabulous Fairyhouse tips on all the course’s major races at Hurdle Bet.
