Horse racing at Goodwood
Goodwood has played host to horse racing for over 200 years. Flat racing was launched at the Sussex Downs venue for local officers by the third Duke of Richmond in 1802. It is home to three of the UK’s 32 Group 1 flat races – the Sussex Stakes, the Goodwood Cup and the Nassau Stakes. All three of those races take place during the prestigious five-day “Glorious Goodwood” meeting in August, which is one of the most popular events in the Flat horse racing calendar. The track, which is situated five miles north of Chichester, has stunning backdrops and considered one of the most beautiful racecourse in the world.
