    Horse racing at Kempton

Kempton Park is a dual purpose horse racing track and the sport was first staged at the Sunbury-on-Thames venue back in 1878. Its big two-day jumps meeting takes place at Christmas, with the King George VI Chase centre stage on Boxing Day. The Grade 1 contest has an illustrious roll of honour, including Kauto Star who won the 3m contest an incredible five times in 2006-2008, 2009 and 2011. Desert Orchid also made the race his own when winning four times between 1986 and 1990, and the popular front-running grey has a raced name in his honour. The Grade 2 Desert Orchid Chase, run on December 27, was won by Sire De Grugy in 2013, who went on to land the Queen Mother Champion Chase at the Cheltenham Festival three months later. Sprinter Sacre, arguably the greatest 2m chaser of all-time, also completed the double when scoring in 2015 before landing a second Queen Mother at Prestbury Park. Kempton could face closure in the coming years, so make the most of while it’s still there!

Kempton tips on offer at Hurdle Bet

Kempton’s big two-day Christmas meeting kicks off coverage at the track for Hurdle Bet. It features the prestigious King George VI Chase, which has been won by a whole host of Cheltenham Gold Cup winners. The latest running of the 3m contest was won in scintillating style by Thistlecrack on just his fourth start over fences. Colin Tizzard’s eight-year-old, who won the Stayers’s Hurdle in stunning fashion at last year’s Cheltenham Festival, is odds-on for Gold Cup glory in March and looks a worthy market leader. Kempton also stages a valuable meeting in February featuring three Grade 2 contests; the Adonis Juvenile Hurdle, Pendil Novices’ Chase and Dovecote Novices’ Hurdle. Those races throw-up plenty of clues for the Cheltenham Festival, especially the Adonis which has seen three winners in the last 12 years gone on to land the Triumph Hurdle. Kempton form can have a huge say come the Festival, so make sure you check tips from that track for those races and others on Hurdle Bet.
